Fabien

!sooooo cute!

with siblings aged 6 weeks

Fabien

I couldn't bear it any longer. I was in a situation last year, where I was looking after someone's cat for too long and it broke my heart when her actual owner eventually collected her after seven long weeks.

A mate of mine put me in touch with a branch of cat's protection league and they had a poorly two year old (ferral) mother with her 6 five week old kittens, out of which, a short-haired black one was still needing a home. The foster mother said the vet gave them a 20% chance of survival. Incidently, she was fostering two sets of litters and one of the other litters had a blind kitten that she decided to keep hold of. They do a damned fine thing, these cat rescue women. I couldn't do it, I wouldn't want to let any of the cats go away, I'd end up in a round house, like Beryl Reed.

At seven weeks old, (after two weekend visits) I took the little ball of mischief away and named him Fabien.

I have a small purple dog harness, that he happily wears and a front loading rucksack so I can take him out and about with me. I don't really care that I get strange looks on the London buses that I take him on, as he's really sociable and loves to come out with me. The only issue is his steady increasing size and weight!

Fabien,

This is Fabien at 7 weeks, in my office and on my fleece. He's as sleek (and nearly as big now) as a panther. I believe him to be a Burmese cross and this comes out not only in his character - he has hands, not paws - but in the golden shimmer on his fur if you catch him in the sun.

At 8 weeks and this one's winning in kitten wars - alongside a piccie of Rupert when he was a few weeks old.

He keeps changing the channel on me and often insists on watching Dr.Who (in case K9 comes on, so he can go and bat the tv screen and yes it is on an old video with Mary Jane Smith adventures).

At 5 months old.

Fabien has a thing about boxes, so I have to throw out the toy I bought and keep the box for him to play with instead. He adores playing with water, so earlier this year, I bought him a cat water fountain. It's the dome one which isn't really working for me (he throws the water about too much), so I might invest in a better designed (or rather - contained!) one later this year. .............Cat water dome fountain for sale........ .....

5 months

and curtains! and climbing walls!!!! (he decided to shimmy up the curtains in a mate's house, luckily she's much taller than me and managed to rescue him when he tangled himself up in the rail, doh!)

5-6 months

And he already has a favourite teddy bear that he chews upon :-)

14 months, Oct. 2006.

He now has a new Katkabin (courtesy of Jules - gaypeoplewithpets website as he's so big he has out grown his previous bed and cat scratcher.

Fabien jumped straight into the new one, to my happy surprise.

And now, half my small lounge is filled with a floor to ceiling cat activity scratchy posts beast and Fabien loves it. He likes to hang off the curtains, just next to the top shelf though..... and did I mention that whenever I have any guests, he finds it most amusing to poke his long paws underneath the duvet to get at bare feet, just as you drop off to sleep. I often get awoken by loud screams due to this and I am sure I hear him giggling, he leaves my feet alone. Am also trying him out with a new harness, virtually escape proof and a sling in which to carry him in before we get to the grass for walks. Pictures and other stuff soon.......

I have managed to source a brilliant new escape proof harness for Fabien, which means we can now go for proper walks outside. I have bought a purple one and a red one.

Fabien on one the big scratch post.

Taking a chunk out of my hand!
